Lar Landa: A Retrospective
Now open by appointment, this retrospective assembles works from across Landa’s career, including pieces dating from 1954-2019. This exhibition provides the viewer with a vibrant arrangement showing how his approach to form, identity, and meaning has evolved over time.
Landa rejects the idea of art as purely decorative, believing that paintings should challenge, evoke emotion, and invite deep engagement. His work does not offer easy beauty or simple messages but instead pushes boundaries, stirring feelings of intensity, intimacy, and even discomfort.
His creative process begins with quick sketches or charcoal outlines on canvas, allowing his art to evolve in layers; early marks are intentionally left visible beneath the final image. This commitment to continual refinement speaks to Landa’s belief that meaning in art is not fixed but unfolds over time—for both the artist and the viewer.
We are pleased to invite you to explore, engage, reflect, and find your own connections to his art.
It is not important that people see the same thing the painter sees. As with ideas, we all see through our own experiences and through who we are.”
